INVESTIGATION

Legislation, or your organization’s policy, may require certain types of complaints be investigated. Investigations should be conducted discretely, in a timely manner, by an individual who understands the importance of a thorough, unbiased, and fair process. We have experience conducting complaints of; harassment, discrimination, workplace safety and violence, breach of privacy, professional misconduct, management or other operational issues.


process design & policy development

It is a good practice to have a process in place to address complaints and issues before they arise. An organization’s policy should be developed to meet its needs and capacity. We have experience interpreting and drafting procedures for administrative tribunals; as well as experience preparing or reviewing organizational policies for non-profit organizations, sports organizations, governments and businesses.


Workplace Conflict Resolution

Sometimes it is helpful to have an independent third party identify the cause of (or contributing factors to) conflict in the workplace. A workplace assessment report can be the first step in resolving conflict or determining how to address a complaint. Our experience in the field of conflict management allows us to provide an unbiased assessment and recommendations. Management can then use this information to make an informed choice on how to move forward.


aRBITRATION

Arbitration is a voluntary process where a neutral party hears from each side, and makes a decision. In most cases, the parties agree in advance to be bound by the arbitrator’s decision. Arbitration is often quicker than pursuing a remedy through the courts. It also has the benefit of being private. We pride ourselves in our ability to issue decisions in a timely manner; making clear what decision was made, and why.

Mediation is a voluntary process where an neutral party assists individuals resolve a conflict or a specific dispute. Mediation is often a more satisfying, and quicker, process than than pursuing a remedy through a tribunal, court, or through arbitration. We have experience mediating cases involving; custody and support, division of property, partnership and professional disputes, workplace issues, human rights complaints, and sports team selection.


CUSTOMIZED SERVICES

Occasionally issues arise, which are outside an organization’s expertise, or which require action by someone external to the organization. Our knowledge, training, and experience allows us to customize the services we provide to our clients. We have been asked to lead or assist with an unfamiliar process, facilitate communication workshops, train staff, or review work done by others.
